ABOUT ME
I am a transgender woman, vocal coach and classically trained musician with an extensive background in the music and film industry. I created Trans Voice Training after my experience working on feminising my voice during my own transition. I found that none of the resources available could truly tailor my voice to match me and my identity.
Drawing on my own musical training, I created a technique to focus and refine my personal voice. This is what I will share with you - with private lessons or one-off vocal guidance.
My focus is on empathy with my clients. As a transgender woman, I know what it’s like to struggle with your voice and to be worried about simple things like answering the phone, speaking in meetings and being heard in a noisy environment. Thus, my voice training doesn’t just involve techniques for pitch and tone - I also provide tips for mentally handling these social situations, so you’re calm and relaxed before you open your mouth to speak.
I am also very aware of the importance of your personal relationship with your voice. Transgender voice training involves isolating and controlling a lot of factors that can completely transform your sound, expression and accent. But, we are the ones that have to live with our voices. And it’s not enough to simply reach some externally defined “gender goals” of pitch and tone, it needs to feel authentic to us.
When I was working on my own voice, I noticed that all the resources and training I found were in either a British or American accent, whereas I was born and raised in Australia. With all the best will in the world, those resources and courses always pushed my voice into those different accents and made it feel like a ‘performance.’ It wasn’t authentic to me, and I had to solve this challenge by myself. To prevent this, I keep you, your identity, personality and natural expressive style at the centre of our work together.
While I am not a registered speech pathologist, I provide a bespoke training course that takes you from start to finish on your vocal journey - creating your new voice from scratch.
However, I am also happy to offer assistance and help if you are already working on a speech therapy course. My focus on your expression, identity and relationship with your voice can help you maximise the gains from those other courses and incorporate them into your daily life.
